Horseshoe Bay Summer Wedding!

What a fun hill country wedding! The ceremony and reception took place at the Horseshoe Bay Resort. It was such a beautiful event!

The ballroom was decorated with gorgeous calla lilies provided by an Austin Florist: The Last Petal.

The cakes were fantastic. Both the bride and groom’s cakes were provided by Sweet Bakery.

My favorite detail was the bride, the groom and their son changed into matching Converse for the reception!

Lakeway Resort & Spa Summer Wedding!

Jeni and Brian are an awesome couple, and we are so glad we got to spend the day with them and their crazy friends for their Austin wedding. They were a gorgeous couple that knew how to have fun! The day started off at Lakeway Resort's beautiful poolside and ended with a mad dash through sparkler wielding guests (this is always tricky after a few hours of drinking - handing everyone fire and asking them to wave it toward the celebrated newlyweds is scary!) It was truly memorable, and everyone gave the couple an event to remember.

Photographer: Blue Eye Photo
Venue: Lakeway Resort and Spa
Coordinator: Megan Breen from Your Very Own Fairy Godmother
Cakes: Simon Lee Bakery
DJ: Marvin Crues from Mobile Music Pro
Lighting: Ilios Lighting
Photo Booth: Party Booth
Officiant: Jim Gentil

Thank you, Troy of Blue Eye Photography, for the blog entry and images below!

105 degrees never looked so good!

The crew posing for a picture at the pool (Lakeway has an awesome multi level pool that many of the wedding party and guests took advantage of early in the day)

A little prep shot of Jeni working on her makeup.

Brian had to grab a few things from Jeni’s room before getting ready so Jeni hid behind the curtains. It was too cute not to capture!

(16 more photos after the jump)

Diva eyelashes were the must-have item for the bridesmaids.

The dashing couple.

I know this isn’t the greatest photo, but I love Brian’s expression while his groomsmen jump out of the frame.

Their cakes looked fab!

A detail shot of Jeni’s awesome dress and her father leading her down the aisle.

Rings!

The Vistas Ballroom looked awesome as usual.

First dance…

There was quite the scuffle for the bouquet…

Party time!

The grand exit…

Travel Tips

Here is a great clip from Skip & Amy Neal's monthly All About Honeymoons newsletter.

Honeymoon Travel Happenings, August 2008

All About Honeymoons, Austin, TX

This is one of the worst Summer's ever for delays and cancellations. Planes are full making it difficult to find a seat on another flight should your flight experience problems. For our honeymoon clients, here are some tips I suggest to help avoid inconvenience.

  1. Know your rights: If your outbound flight is cancelled or delayed even with a non-refundable ticket, the airlines are required to refund you in full with at least a travel voucher for a future trip.

2. Ask Nicely & Quietly: If you're stranded at the airport overnight, ask for a hotel room, meals, and transportation nicely (and out of earshot of other passengers). Airlines are not required to provide you with these amenities, and they'll do so only out of the kindness of their hearts on a first-come basis. They may only have a few rooms to hand out if dozens of flights are scratched, and asking privately and politely is the best way to snag one.

3. Prepare for the Worst: If all else fails, make sure that you have books, games, and other distractions in your carryon luggage. Many airlines sell day passes to their club lounges, a more attractive option than sitting at the gate listening to those awful TV and PA broadcasts.

4. Line up, but call too: I tell all of our clients that if your flight is canceled or delayed, get in line with the other unfortunates, but while waiting call the airline on your mobile phone to make other arrangements. By the time you get to the front of the line at the check in desk all the alternative seats may be booked.

5. Book first flight of the day: Just as your doctor or dentist will see you on time if you're the first appointment, first-of-the-day flights tend to be on time as well.

6. Call the airline frequently: Make sure you reconfirm that your flight is operating on time -- or operating at all. Do this several weeks, several days, and several hours before your flight. It is not unusual now to have one, two or even three flight time changes, due to cutbacks. I wouldn't rely on having the airline contact you, but if you wish, sure, give them your phone number, email address, and mobile phone number. Just don't bet your trip on the expectation that they'll call you Amy and I normally get notification and can advise ahead of time, but there have been times when the flight was changed when the couple got to the airport.

7. Book longer layovers: If there is no nonstop flight, then we always advise clients to add time into the itinerary for the connection. Don't take the connecting flight that gives you just 45 minutes to change planes at a busy airport; instead, take the 2 to 4 hour layover to make the connection. Hate longer layovers? Bring a good book. You'll hate spending two days on a cot at Houston Intercontinental even more, trust us.

The Fairy Godmothers

Our Austin & Houston wedding planning team recently returned from our annual retreat, and it was amazing! We laughed so hard that we cried, and new friendships were formed. Our Austin and Houston teams had not spent a great deal of time together before our weekend retreat, because many of our Houston Fairy Godmother wedding consultants have joined our team within the past year. I cannot begin to express how talented all of the ladies on the team are or how blessed we are to have them as Fairy Godmothers! It was refreshing to have the different personality types share their individual perspectives and have the opportunity to all learn from one another. I know that I still learn from the other ladies on the team, and I am fortunate enough to have already been in the industry for (shhh, we don't talk about age!) twelve years. We played wedding games (that actually required budgeting and planning), took a wine tasting and pairing class, stomped grapes at a winery, did team building activities, learned how to better work with different personality types, and danced into wee hours of the morning to some of our favorite songs. I look forward to all that our newest rising stars have to offer! Amy, Bronwyn, Heather, Maranda, Marissa, and Martha are a few Fairy Godmothers that have recently received or are completing their curriculum to become Certified Professional Wedding Consultants.
As our very own, Kyle Dyer, would say, "Fairy Lovin'!"
